NASCAR Driver Joey Logano Joins Nurse-Family Partnership to Support Maternal and Child Health

Evidence-Based Program Boosts Outcomes for Mothers and Babies

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C., Sept. 21, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NASCAR driver Joey Logano and his race team have joined Nurse-Family Partnership ® to build strong communities and improve the lives of mothers and babies struggling with poverty across the U.S.

As Joey and his race team enter the final stretch of the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) season, they were able to help prepare hundreds of gift bags to support vulnerable moms and babies at Joey's shop on Monday night.

"My pit crew is essential. I could not win races without them. Moms and babies need a pit crew too. And that's where these heroic nurses come in. We want to support Nurse-Family Partnership so nurses can strengthen our communities," said Joey.

The Joey Logano Foundation provides aid to people in need of a second chance and the organization is investing in Nurse-Family Partnership to strengthen families so they can avoid hardship.

"Our nurses help moms give their babies the best possible start in life," said Roxane White, president and CEO of Nurse-Family Partnership. "We know that the first 1,000 days of a baby's life are absolutely critical. It's great to have a hero like Joey supporting our nurses, moms and babies."

Nurse-Family Partnership pairs low-income, first-time mothers with registered nurses who have specialized training in maternal and child health. Through home visits from early in pregnancy to the child's second birthday, the nurses support mothers in having healthy pregnancies, becoming knowledgeable and responsible parents and nurturing their babies. By strengthening families and improving early childhood development, Nurse-Family Partnership sparks multigenerational change and helps break cycles of poverty.
