Sunrun Appoints Reid Energy Advisor Alex McDonough To Policy Leadership Role

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 06, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sunrun (Nasdaq:RUN), the largest dedicated residential solar company in the United States, announced today that former US Senate Leader Harry Reid’s (D-NV) top energy advisor, Alex McDonough, is joining Sunrun as Vice President of Public Policy. He will lead Sunrun's Western states advocacy.

“Sunrun has demonstrated a commitment to working with top industry and policy stakeholders to bring more clean, affordable solar energy to consumers across the country,” McDonough said. “I look forward to utilizing my experience working on energy policy issues to help Sunrun move closer to its goals of fostering a regulatory environment that encourages competition and energy choice.”

McDonough formerly served as Reid’s Senior Policy Advisor for Energy and Environment. With 11 years of experience as an advisor to Reid, he counseled a diverse group of high-profile government officials on energy and environmental policy matters nationally, internationally, and in Nevada.

McDonough has worked across party lines to help negotiate a number of high-profile federal energy deals and to support building out the renewable energy market across Nevada to make the state a national leader for clean energy. While in the Senate, he worked daily with energy industry leaders, trade associations, White House staff, federal agency officials, environmental groups, and other key stakeholders to develop, pass, and protect top policy priorities.

“Alex is well known for his leadership and ability to bring people together to solve complex energy policy issues,” said Anne Hoskins, Sunrun’s Chief Policy Officer. “His experience will bolster our team’s ability to advocate for policies that empower solar consumers and advance access to clean, affordable power from rooftop solar.”

Alex is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a Juris Doctor from the Washington College of Law at American University.
