Successful first drive of the world's first hydrogen regional train with X-STORE cylinders

PRESS RELEASE

Alstom, a leading provider of rail technology, has been developing the world's first hydrogen powered regional train, Coradia iLint, which is equipped with xperion's lightweight X-STORE® Type 4 high-pressure cylinders. The first prototype train has successfully been assembled and fueled with hydrogen. The train will initially run on Alstom's own test tracks within Germany. In the next step, the tests will be extended to external test tracks.

"This new development enables regional trains to run on rail tracks without overhead lines, and provides a zero-emission and quiet passenger transport by rail" says Dr. Thorsten Weber, Director Program Management at xperion.

Last year, Hexagon Composites' subsidiary, xperion Energy & Environment, announced that they had been awarded by Alstom to supply hydrogen cylinders to its first prototype trains. The cooperation between xperion and Alstom is an important strategic step for Hexagon Composites to extend its hydrogen application portfolio also to the rail sector.
