Mae Jemison, Ian Glazer and Larry Smarr Named Featured Speakers at Internet2’s 2017 Global Summit

Noted subject-matter experts will headline three separate general sessions covering topics ranging from big data to identity practice and standards to developing the next generation of problem solvers.


Denver, Colo., April 10, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Internet2, a member-driven advanced technology community founded by the nation’s leading higher education institutions, today confirmed three featured speakers at its 2017 Global Summit meeting taking place April 23-26 in Washington, D.C. The featured speakers for the general sessions include:

  • Dr. Mae Jamison, physician, professor and NASA astronaut, will present “STEM: The Importance of Science, Technology, Engineering & Math” on Monday, April 24.
  • Ian Glazer, senior director for identity at Salesforce, will present “The Changing Face/Fate of Identity” on Tuesday, April 25.
  • Dr. Larry Smarr, founding director of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology and Harry E. Gruber professor of computer science at UC San Diego, will present “Toward a National Big Data Superhighway” on Wednesday, April 26.

The Internet2 Global Summit is an annual event that hosts nearly 1,000 C-level information technology decision-makers and high-level influencers from higher education, government and scientific research organizations.
