LexisNexis Canada and Law Made announce partnership to create innovation initiatives

LexisNexis Canada announces partnership with legal innovation champion Law Made, helping foster innovation among both Canadian law students and aspiring legal entrepreneurs

TORONTO, April 25, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- LexisNexis Canada, a leading provider of legal content and technology solutions, announces it is partnering with Law Made, a legal innovation champion from the former founders of LegalX at MaRS. The aim of the partnership is to inspire law students at the start of their legal careers to become innovators, while also equipping aspiring entrepreneurs – and “intrapreneurs” at larger companies – with the concrete skills, knowledge, and connections required for success.

The LexisNexis Law Made Roadshow will promote legal innovation in a series of presentations at law schools, starting with the University of Toronto yesterday, April 24th, 2017. The presentation will inspire law students to adopt the “T-shaped Professional” model of career success, which calls for both depth in legal knowledge and skills, and breadth in a range of topics in adjacent areas such as design thinking, computer coding and data management, financing, and entrepreneurship.

“Driving and adopting innovation will be essential to the careers of new lawyers and legal entrepreneurs because, as our customers tell us every day, the pace of change is accelerating in the Canadian legal industry. Partnering with Law Made is part of our commitment to helping the industry adopt and embrace innovation at its core, not just theoretically but in their day-to-day practice. We want to help a new generation of lawyers understand that the exploration and commercialization of new ideas is absolutely essential to the future of law in Canada.”
— Loik Amis, Chief Executive Officer, LexisNexis Canada

The LexisNexis Law Made Innovation Academy will provide a program for aspiring innovators, entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs in the legal sector. This program will provide participants with training, coaching, and networking support, helping them become part of a global ecosystem. The same leadership talent that created the legal technology cluster that put Toronto on the global legal innovation map will develop and deliver this program, with expert support and industry insight from LexisNexis.

LexisNexis Canada’s promotion of practical innovation in the legal space goes well beyond investments in its flagship products Lexis Advance Quicklaw, Lexis Practice Advisor, and the newly launched The Lawyer’s Daily. In 2013 LexisNexis presented the successful The Future of Law event, leading to the whitepaper LexisNexis Leadership Series: The Future of Law. LexisNexis Canada worked with Law Made founders Aron Solomon and Jason Moyse previously at a Canadian Bar Association event called ‘The Pitch’, the first-ever legal innovation startup competition that was held in August 2016. LexisNexis Canada is proud to co-present the upcoming legal innovation conference, Lawyering in the 21st Century: How to Succeed through Innovation, with the Legal Innovation Zone (LIZ) incubator at Ryerson University on May 15th, 2017.

“Just as the Digital Transformation is impacting all areas of business and creating new categories like FinTech, RegTech and entirely new sets of economics — the legal services industry is in the throes of dramatic change which has not been experienced in over a century. We are thrilled to work with LexisNexis to further our mission of nurturing the Makers that will support and build the products, services, processes and business models which move the industry forward. The LexisNexis commitment to innovation is reflected in their offerings, but also in their support for the next generation of entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs.”
— Jason Moyse, Law Made

LexisNexis Canada and LawMade are excited to foster innovation within the Legal field in Canada.
