GQ 2016 Agronomic Program and Progress Update

VANCOUVER, British Columbia , May 04, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Great Quest Fertilizer Ltd (TSXV:GQ) (“the Company”) is pleased to announce that it has received the report of its 2016 agronomic tests carried out in association with the Institut d’Economie Rurale (IER) of the Malian Ministry of Agriculture. The agronomic tests this season aimed at evaluating the impact of Great Quest fertilizer (GQ) products, based on the Tilemsi phosphate, on commercial scale cultivations. So far, the testing was limited to stations run by the Malian Ministry of Agriculture. Main parameters measured were the growth rate and the yield of cereals, which included corn, millet, sorghum, wheat and rice), cotton, and legumes such as peanuts and cowpeas.

Seven agricultural regions were selected and a total of 130 tests were carried out. Most of the tests returned a comparable and some exceeding the growth and yield of commercial crops using GQ products as opposed to imported chemical fertilizers or locally available fertilizers used by Malian farmers. The report, authored by Dr. Lamine Traore, Lead Researcher, also indicates that the use of GQ products provides a higher net economic benefit to farmers.

Dr. Lamine wrote “Given their observed performances, [the Great Quest] fertilizer products could well be the solution to a large-scale use of the Tilemsi Phosphate in Mali and in the surrounding countries. They could be considered as an effective way to enrich the Malian soil in phosphorus and other African countries, bearing in mind that the West African soil is notoriously deficient in phosphorus.”

The Company will publish details of the report and will make the report available on its website.

The Company is currently launching the last of its four-year agronomic tests through meetings with farmers and active players in the agricultural industry in Mali.

The Company wishes to also provide an update on the previously announced exploration work on its Tilemsi property which aims at upgrading a portion of the inferred resource to a measured and indicated status. Delays to field work and challenges moving equipment and personnel have pushed timelines back considerably. The Company has not yet received results from the work, however, mapping has already been completed. In addition to the receipt of final results, the Company is awaiting the completion of a survey program necessary to validate the resource when results are received.
