Tarion’s 2017 Annual Public Meeting to Again be Webcast Only

Toronto, May 16, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

For the second consecutive year, Tarion will webcast its Annual Public Meeting, providing unprecedented access to residents across the province, including new home buyers and new home owners, who have an interest in Tarion’s work.

The webcast APM will be held May 30, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Tarion, the province’s not-for-profit consumer protection organization that administers the new home warranty and regulates new home builders, will provide an update on policies and processes over the last year.  The Tarion Ombudsperson will also be present.

After a formal presentation, an extended live question and answer period will be conducted.

Stakeholders from across the province can register here to participate in the APM.  Questions can be submitted via email during the webcast and sent in advance of the meeting by clicking here.

Tarion held its first-ever webcast APM last year and subsequently won an Honourable Mention from PR Daily's 2016 Corporate Social Responsibility Awards for organizational transparency.

"When we decided to hold a virtual Annual Public Meeting in 2016, we believed it was an important and progressive way to make the meeting more accessible to all Ontarians, not just those within driving distance of the event," says Howard Bogach, President and CEO of Tarion. "The event was a terrific success, and we are looking forward to a similar response for this year’s APM.”

Last year’s webcast drew registrations from more than 1,600 people from across the province: from Thunder Bay to Timmins; Sarnia to Niagara Falls; Kington to Ottawa; and dozens of towns and cities in between.

The organization received more than 275 pre-event question submissions from homeowners about the warranty and Tarion processes.  Tarion staff followed up with over 200 homeowners directly and more than 30 questions were answered during the webcast.

The webcast was also recorded and then posted to Tarion's YouTube channel.  Since then the recording has been viewed more than 850 times.

As part of its Accountability Agreement with the provincial government, Tarion holds an Annual Public Meeting (APM) to give interested stakeholders valuable updates on the organization and the opportunity to ask management a variety of questions. Tarion has held Annual Public Meetings since 2010.

This year, members of Tarion’s leadership team will respond to a combination of pre-submitted and live questions during the web conference. A team of Warranty Services Representatives will also be on hand to follow-up on individual questions about the warranty.

Invitations to attend the 2017 Annual Public Meeting will be emailed to all consumers and builders registered through MyHome and BuilderLink.
