PDC Healthcare Launches New ScanBand® DR Thermal Patient ID Wristbands Designed Specifically to Deliver Greater Print Durability

Thermal Wristband Answers Healthcare’s Need for Fade-Resistant, Durable Barcodes and Text

Valencia, CA, May 23, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- PDC Healthcare, a global leader of innovative identification and patient safety solutions, announced today the release of ScanBand® DR, its newest line of thermal patient identification wristbands.  Specifically designed to deliver optimal and reliable print durability and performance throughout a patient’s stay, from admission to discharge, ScanBand® DR improves patient safety through positive patient identification for adults, pediatrics, and infants.

A barcode wristband that consistently scans is critical to patient safety.  Barcode scanning is proven to reduce medication errors by up to 86%, according to one study. Unreadable or poor quality wristband text and barcodes impede the process, putting patients at risk.  The most common wristband issue encountered by clinicians is a barcode that doesn’t scan, and as a result, 88% of clinicians consider print durability the most important feature of a wristband, according to a recent PDC survey of hospital clinicians.

ScanBand® DR is PDC Healthcare’s new line of thermal wristbands that provides superior print durability to resist fading.  Producing long-lasting, crisp, and readable barcodes and text, ScanBand® DR helps prevent patient identification errors, re-banding, and staff workarounds, while improving patient safety and workflow efficiency as well. With proven resistance to fading, rubbing, moisture, alcohol, and hand sanitizer, the wristbands are designed to endure the hospital environment.

“A wristband is a patient’s lifeline, providing positive patient identification and connecting the patient to specified treatment and care,” said John Choi, Patient ID Product Manager for PDC Healthcare.  “If a wristband doesn’t scan or can’t be read, patient safety is at risk.  ScanBand® DR is specifically designed to answer this need for certainty, delivering longer-lasting print durability, so clinicians can be confident that their patients’ wristbands will consistently scan for the duration of the stay.”

Made of a smooth comfortable material, ScanBand® DR features an adhesive closure that is tamper-evident and easy to apply.   The wristbands are available in up to six colors, and are offered in a wide variety of sizes to cover the entire patient population, from adults to infants.  ScanBand® DR is compatible with leading direct thermal printers, increasing convenience for hospital clinicians.
