The first images have been released of the late John Wilfong’s petroliana collection. The gathering, found in a dusty Kitchener basement, is a collector’s dream.
Wilfong’s family discovered these items in the lower deck of the house beneath a thick layer of sawdust. The items date to the 1920s and are part of a larger gathering of about 120 pieces, mostly of Canadian origin. Experts agree it is the single-most important discovery of petroliana in recent history.
Miller & Miller Auctions Ltd. is selling the collection on the behalf of the family. “These items are highly sawed after,” Ethan Miller, co-founder joked. “It’s seldom you see such rarity intact, untouched, and unknown by other collectors. Our phones are ringing off the hook.”
