Shallow Water Block is One of Three Blocks Won by Petronas Carigali in Bidding Process


Dallas, Texas, June 23, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Thompson & Knight LLP congratulates client Petronas Carigali (“Petronas”) for successfully winning a shallow water block in Round 2.1 of the Mexico Energy Reform bidding process. The company will operate Block 6, which is located off the Gulf coast state of Veracruz and includes estimated prospective resources of up to 516 million barrels of oil covering an area of 216 square miles.

In addition to Block 6, Petronas was awarded two deep water blocks in Round 1.4 last year. The company will operate deep water Block 4 in partnership with Sierra Offshore Exploration, and partner in deep water Block 5 with operator Murphy Sur, Ophir Mexico, and Sierra Offshore Exploration. Both Block 4 and Block 5 are located in the Salina Basin.
