WellDoc® Provides BlueStar® to New Class in American Diabetes Association of Maryland’s “The Fabulous YOU!” Program

COLUMBIA, Md., June 27, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WellDoc®, the leading digital health technology company revolutionizing chronic disease management, announced today its support of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) of Maryland’s “The Fabulous YOU!” program. The company is providing the third class of women involved in the program with access to its BlueStar® digital therapeutic for individuals living with type 2 diabetes.

“The Fabulous YOU!” is a year-long program providing fitness and educational classes and materials, cooking classes, and coaching to participants to teach them how to manage their diabetes. Over the past few years, program participants achieved a reduction in their A1C levels and lost up to 16 pounds as they learned integral techniques to manage their diabetes.

“We are happy to be a part of this program to support women living with diabetes that are in our own backyard in the State of Maryland,” said WellDoc’s Director of Clinical Innovation Janice MacLeod. “We feel BlueStar will be another integral tool in each participant’s tool belt to help guide them through the complicated journey of living type 2 diabetes.”

Ms. MacLeod is a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) and recently wrote a chapter in the new Nutrition Therapy text and served on the 2017 National Work Group updating the ADA/AADE DSMES National Standards, which were both released at the ADA 77th Scientific Sessions. She was also actively involved on the local board of ADA in Virginia. Ms. MacLeod is the past regional Association of American Diabetes Educators (AADE) president. In her role at WellDoc, she is responsible for partnering with the healthcare team to integrate digital therapeutics, like BlueStar, into clinical practice.

BlueStar is WellDoc’s FDA-cleared, proven digital therapeutic that provides real-time and timely individualized coaching and support, as well as diabetes educational tools that are actionable and personal. WellDoc’s clinical evidence shows a 1.7 to 2.0 point mean A1C reduction for adults living with type 2 diabetes who used BlueStar.

“We are most grateful to WellDoc for providing our ‘Fabulous YOU!’ program participants with BlueStar,” said ADA Maryland’s Area Executive Director David McShea. “WellDoc is a technology leader in the type 2 diabetes space, and we are thrilled to get BlueStar in the hands of each participant in our program’s third cohort.”

To support integration of BlueStar into the program, WellDoc representatives will visit the class and assist participants with the use of BlueStar.
