SynTech Japan and SynTech Bioenergy will commission an initial commercial plant in Mie Prefecture this fall to showcase BioMax® as a reliable and profitable technology for the Japanese market. The office is headed by Toshiya Saito and Henry Takata, who are well versed in the renewable energy sector in Japan.

Developing viable, cost-effective alternative energy technologies is especially critical for Japan, which plans to increase biomass generation to up to 4.6% (45 billion kWh) of its energy mix by 2030. “One of the big themes in Japanese biomass generation is ‘localized production for local consumption,’ and the tariff system favors smaller generation facilities utilizing local feedstock,” said Toshiya. “SynTech’s biomass energy systems are well situated to contribute to local renewable energy resources and achieving the country’s energy goals.”

“We are confident that the Japanese market represents a very significant immediate market opportunity for our BioMax® product line,” said Wayne McFarland, CEO of SynTech Bioenergy (US).  “Our technology is proven and addresses a growing mandate for renewable energy while also offering unparalleled opportunities for waste remediation, and is particularly well suited for projects in the 2 MW and under market in Japan.”

SynTech’s BioMax® systems are based on small-scale downdraft gasification and combined heat and power (CHP) technologies. The systems are housed in ISO shipping containers, making them easy to transport and install. The BioMax® units are modular and scalable for electrical output from 165 kW up to 2 MW. They can be powered by a variety of abundant biomass and waste materials, such as wood wastes, nut shells, and fruit pits. The only byproduct is high grade organic biochar, which can be used as a soil amendment. SynTech’s biomass energy systems are ideally suited to meeting Japan’s energy needs. The systems are proven, fully automated, can be operated remotely, and neither use nor produce water.
