Fort Worth, Texas, Sept. 22, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Texas Christian University’s School of Music presents the fourth annual Festival of American Song Oct. 1-3 to celebrate American music. This year’s distinguished guest artist is Dawn Upshaw, world-renowned, Grammy Award-winning soprano.
The highlight of the festival will be Upshaw’s recital, when she is joined by celebrated pianist Gil Kalish, at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 2, in Ed Landreth Auditorium, 2800 S. University Dr. on the TCU campus. Tickets are $10 and are available at https://ci.ovationtix.com/34830.
Other festival events include a master class taught by Upshaw at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1, and a conversation with Upshaw, led by pianist Shields-Collins Bray, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, both in PepsiCo Recital Hall in the Mary D. and F. Howard Walsh Center for Performing Arts, 2800 S. University Dr., on the TCU campus.

Joining a rare natural warmth with a fierce commitment to the transforming communicative power of music, Upshaw has achieved worldwide celebrity as a singer of opera and concert repertoire ranging from the sacred works of Bach to the freshest sounds of today. In 2007, she was named a Fellow of the MacArthur Foundation, the first vocal artist to be awarded the five-year “genius” prize, and in 2008 she was named a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.
A five-time Grammy Award winner, Upshaw is featured on more than 50 recordings. She is artistic director of the Vocal Arts Program at the Bard College Conservatory of Music in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, and the head of the Vocal Arts Program at the Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, Massachusetts.
