55 INSTITUTIONAL PARTNERS NAMES DR. LEONID KOGAN CHIEF INVESTMENT SCIENTIST

The Award-winning Architect of Firm’s Next-Generation Tax Optimization Technology Will Lead Development of 55 Institutional Partners’ Investment Platform


New York, Oct. 18, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- 55 Institutional Partners, LLC, a leading investment science and technology firm, has appointed Dr. Leonid Kogan, an award-winning academic and a Chair of the Finance Department at MIT Sloan School of Management, as Chief Investment Scientist. Dr. Kogan, who has been one of the firm’s research partners and led the development of the firm’s proprietary tax optimization technology, will now lead the firm’s investment research team and the ongoing development of 55 Institutional Partners’ investment science and technology capabilities. He will report to Paul Gamble, CEO of 55 Institutional Partners.

Dr. Kogan is the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Professor of Management and Professor of Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Dr. Kogan is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. His research, which covers theoretical and empirical topics in capital markets has appeared in leading academic journals such as the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Political Economy, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, and Operations Research. Over his career he has won numerous awards, including, the 2013 Crowell Memorial Prize for his work on technological innovation and growth; the 2013 Whitebox Advisors Award for his work on the price impact of mutual fund trading and timing of SEOs; and most recently, the 2014 Amundi Smith Breeden Prize for his work on the effect of technology shocks on stock prices. He received a Master’s degree in mechanics and applied mathematics from the Moscow State University, a Ph.D. in mechanics from Cornell University, and a Ph.D. degree in finance from MIT.
