Corporate conservation champions lauded by WWF-Canada

Toronto, Oct. 18, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Outstanding corporate partners and champions who led innovative employee engagement and sustainability initiatives were celebrated by WWF-Canada's Living Planet @ Work program, presented by RSA, at WWF-Canada's 2017 annual support recognition event.

WWF-Canada is proud to acknowledge the accomplishments of those who went above and beyond to make protecting nature a priority:

  • Sustainability Trailblazer Award
BMO Financial Group’s Izabela Popova inspired colleagues to take environmental action by spearheading campaigns to reduce single-use cups and plastic, including organizing a documentary screening of A Plastic Ocean with 1,800 page views by BMO employees. Popova also ensured the lights went out at a record 49 BMO buildings around the world and 100 North American branches during Earth Hour.

  • Excellence in Environmental Employee Engagement
Procter & Gamble Canada engaged employees in waste reduction through a baseline audit and the creation of new waste bin signage. The initiative, led by P&G Canada's Sustainability Network, has since been shared with more than 25 organizations outside of P&G which will help thousands of employees properly dispose of recycling, compost and garbage to divert waste from landfills. P&G Canada’s head office also signed up for its first CN Tower Climb, recruiting 30 climbers and raising $5,500 for WWF-Canada.

  • Distinction in Workplace Giving for Nature
BGIS rallied employees to raise more than $20,000 for WWF-Canada's conservation programs. With support from CEO Gord Hicks, President Mike Greidanus and Living Planet @ Work champion Eric Mercey, the company took workplace giving to the next level for WWF-Canada’s CN Tower Climb for Nature by organizing a pep rally fundraiser, raffles and inviting partners and suppliers to join the BGIS team.

David Miller, president and CEO of WWF-Canada, says:
“The incredible efforts of these conservation champions to bring sustainability and the protection of nature to life in their workplace merits celebration. The commitment of employees, executives and industry is an important part of efforts to reverse the decline of wildlife in Canada.”

Martin Thompson, president and CEO of RSA Canada, says:
“At RSA Canada, getting employees involved is an important step in achieving our ambitious corporate responsibility commitments. That is why RSA Canada is proud to be the presenting sponsor of Living Planet @ Work, and to congratulate this year's award winners for demonstrating how employee engagement across the organization can drive positive change for the environment."
