LiUNA Local 3000 to Take a Stand Against ParaMed’s Unfair Treatment of Its Home Healthcare Workers

OTTAWA, Oct. 23, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- LiUNA Local 3000 is calling on ParaMed to stop ignoring the efforts of the union to negotiate a new, fair and reasonable contract nearly two years overdue.

WHAT:        A protest will be held to support Personal Support Workers being treated unfairly by ParaMed’s unwillingness to bargain a fair contract and give all employees the opportunity to work.

          2:00 p.m.

WHERE:          ParaMed Building, 1145 Hunt Club Manor, Ottawa

WHO:          Members of LiUNA Local 3000

Members will meet at 1:30 p.m. at the staging area located at Cineplex Odeon South Keys (behind the ParaMed building). Access via Daze Street off Hunt Club Manor.

In 2015, ParaMed, a home healthcare services provider, acquired Revera Health Services and agreed to negotiate in good faith for former Revera employees as well as the unrepresented ParaMed employees working in the Ottawa area. Close to two years of negotiations have hit a roadblock with ParaMed refusing to acknowledge the union’s most recent offer presented on September 15, 2017.

Of great concern for the union is the pattern that has been established with ParaMed offering former Revera employees lower wages and less hours of work per week compared to other ParaMed employees, resulting in a significant number of former Revera employees leaving to find alternate work.

LiUNA Local 3000 is asking ParaMed to make good on their promise to negotiate in good faith with the union and return to the bargaining table.
