Oakridge Centre Lights up Vancouver with Holiday Festivities

Festive music, interactive events and special offers spread cheer to shoppers this holiday season


VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Nov. 20, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With the holidays just around the corner, Vancouver is abuzz with the magic of the giving season. Beginning this month, Oakridge Centre will be spreading cheer through a series of experiences and events created to put guests in the holiday spirit. From beloved events like “Sounds of the Season” to new activities including Oakridge Centre’s “12 Days of Giving” and “Hanukkah Celebration of Light”, Oakridge Centre will be transformed into a holiday wonderland for guests to enjoy.

“The holiday season is always a busy time for shoppers at Oakridge Centre. But more importantly, it’s a chance to spend quality time with loved ones,” said Susan Nicol, General Manager of Oakridge Centre. “This year, we are aiming to inspire these precious moments by creating holiday experiences that encourage guests to slow down and enjoy the holiday spirit.”

From November 18th – December 24th, guests can enjoy a variety of holiday events, experiences and special offerings:

Visits with Santa

Santa’s sleigh touched down at Oakridge Centre on November 18th. Stop by for a visit with St. Nick and see why thousands of Vancouverites make Santa at Oakridge a special part of their holiday traditions. Oakridge Centre will also be offering very special mornings with Santa for children with special needs. These exclusive Quiet Days will provide a quiet and comfortable environment for families to enjoy their time with Santa before the shopping centre opens to the public, between 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM on Sunday, November 26th, Sunday, December 3rd and Sunday, December 10th. Guests can also bring their furry family members for special Paws & Mr. Claus evenings between 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, November 29th and Wednesday, December 6th.

Magical Musical Performances

Get into the holiday spirit with festive classics led by local performance groups from the Greater Vancouver Area. Oakridge Centre is pleased to welcome back Sounds of the Season, a musical event featuring performances by local choral groups and musicians, including the Vancouver Bach Choir, Sound Direction School of Music, Loewen School of Music and many more, between November 18th to December 24th. Guests can enjoy the musical stylings of local Vancouver pianists while supporting the most urgent needs in hospitals, at the Tom Lee Music Angels Concert on Saturday, December 9th between 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Proceeds benefit VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation’s Angel Campaign, including the purchase of critical equipment, funding high-impact research projects, and advancing patient care to deliver BC’s best, most specialized health care for adults. Oakridge will be matching funds raised on the day to a maximum of $2500.

Community Caring

Spreading good cheer goes beyond gift-giving at Oakridge Centre. This season, guests will be greeted by a spectacular 20-foot Wishing Tree in partnership with Cops for Cancer benefitting Camp Goodtimes. After making a donation, guests are invited to place an ornament adorned with their holiday wish on the tree. Shoppers can also help spread joy to those in need by dropping a new and unwrapped toy to Oakridge Centre’s Toy Donation Bin, benefiting the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau.

Once shopping is complete, guests can cross-off their last “to-do” by visiting Oakridge Centre’s Holiday Gift Wrapping Booth, in partnership with BC Blind Sports and Recreation Association, which has raised more than $185,000 in support of BCBSRA, with over $23,000 raised last year alone.

Oakridge Centre’s Hanukkah Celebration of Light

Located in the heart of Vancouver’s Jewish heritage community, Oakridge Centre is proud to celebrate Hanukkah from December 12th – December 20th with a special Hanukkah Candle Lighting Ceremony on Monday, December 18th at 6:00 PM. Guests are welcome to experience the traditions surrounding the holiday followed by a ceremonial candle lighting in partnership with the Lubavitch Centre of British Columbia.

This holiday, Oakridge Centre takes the guess work out of gift giving.
