Memphis, Tennessee, Nov. 28, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Department of Veterans Affairs announced the design phase of a plumbing system repair at the Memphis, Tennessee Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The project is estimated to cost between $5 and $10 million. The contract is reserved for a small business owned by a service-disabled veteran. Qualified architect-engineers should submit the standard form for architecture and engineering services (SF330) to the contracting officer by December 28, 2017.
The Memphis VA Medical Center plumbing deficiencies span several buildings on the campus. Requirements of the repair range from eliminating bacteria-prone, dead-leg pipes, to replacing thermostatic mixing valves. These valves are important because they prevent bathing water from reaching a scalding temperature. Some deteriorated piping needs to be replaced and the amount of asbestos parts from earlier construction should be the removed when necessary. In addition, the VA requires a modification to the system which will give them the ability to conduct shock chlorination of hot and cold-water systems.
The Architect-Engineer in charge of design will also provide and review bid documents for construction contracting, be on-site throughout the construction phase and keep records at project meetings. The design and pre-construction phase is scheduled to last 215 days.
Shawn Hendricks, the contracting officer is not currently receiving quotes or proposals for this project. Currently he seeks information about a firm’s capability, past performance and reputation. They would like a company located within the general area of the place of performance; although, exceptions could be made. Contractors need to submit the required information on government Standard-Form-330 to shawn.hendricks@va.gov by December 28, 2017 at 3:00 PM CST. The three most qualified firms will be selected for further interviews.
