GREEN SHIELD CANADA IS IN THE SPOTLIGHT!

Sherry Peister named one of Canada’s most powerful women — AGAIN …And GSC receives an Excellence in Governance Award

Toronto, Ontario, Nov. 29, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Green Shield Canada (GSC) earns bragging rights as it has now won three awards in the last two years. Just like in 2016—Sherry Peister, Chair of the Board of Directors receives an Accenture Corporate Directors Award as a 2017 WXN Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award Winner. And the Governance Professionals of Canada awards GSC with the Excellence in Governance Award; Best Approach to Achieving Effective Board and Committee Operations Award.

The Top 100 Awards celebrate the accomplishments of Canada’s top female executive talent as well as their organizations and networks. It’s no wonder Sherry initially also won an Accenture Corporate Directors Award in 2016 as candidates are judged based on their impact on Board effectiveness and Corporate Governance and their leadership regarding diversity. Appointed as GSC’s first female Board Chair in 2010, since then Sherry’s passionate and unwavering commitment to good corporate governance and diversity led to new competency, recruitment, and evaluation policies for the Board of Directors, as well as new succession planning and risk oversight measures.

Award candidates are also judged based on their contribution to not-for-profit and public sector Board service. This is another area where Sherry shines, making it even clearer why Sherry now stands out in 2017 as a two-time winner of an Accenture Corporate Directors Award.

“With GSC’s mission and core values deeply rooted in social responsibility, it’s essential that this culture is set by the tone at the top. That’s where Sherry’s dedication to selfless volunteering in both not-for-profit and public sectors sets an exceptional example,” explains Steve Bradie, GSC President and CEO. “As a licensed Ontario pharmacist, Sherry has been involved in the pharmacist community locally, provincially, and nationally, including president of the Canadian Pharmacists Association. We sincerely congratulate Sherry on winning, once again, one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award.”

And speaking of awards that recognize excellence in governance, Sherry’s award comes on the heels of GSC also winning the Best Approach to Achieving Effective Board and Committee Operations Award from the Governance Professionals of Canada. As the judges’ comments noted, “GSC is a good example of a not-for-profit organization ‘punching above its weight’ for effective Board and committee operations.” Steve Bradie adds, “This is an important recognition for GSC because it identifies that GSC’s governance practices go well beyond just best practices; our

practices are unique and innovative.
