Maui, Hawaii, Nov. 30, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

The artworks, depicting various North American coastal areas, are actual charts that the artist overpaints with images of sailboats, ketches, schooners and sloops. Each artwork serves as the viewer’s invitation to discover the intrinsic beauty of maps and admire the glory and adventure of the coastline.

“I paint some paintings to communicate how I feel about a subject. Others I paint to find out how I feel. Where one is an expression, the other is a discovery."-Kerry Hallam

Kerry Hallam’s foray into chart painting was, according to the artist himself, a “happy accident.” Years ago, Hallam had a small gallery on the Old South Wharf where he served as owner, framer and artist. One morning he realized he had forgotten his pad of paper, and noticed a pile of old charts laying around and thought, “Why not, paper is paper and pretty good stock at that.” Hallam began painting in watercolor and with a few brilliant strokes representing sailboats on the starboard tack he began creating refreshing, spirited and enticing artworks that have become his signature works.

Kerry Hallam has been called by Forbes Magazine – “A charming Adventurer.” Born in Northern England, Hallam showed early artistic talent when he won a six-year scholarship to London’s University Central College of Art where he received formal training under British master painters. In fact, Britain’s Royal Society of Artists in Watercolor recognized that talent, and included him in their ranks. He was also strongly influenced by the Fauves and the 19th century French Post-Impressionists, Cezanne and Van Gogh.

Enthusiasm is Hallam’s currency — his art is filled with vivid, windswept seascapes and timeless, sun-dappled village scenes. His panoramas continue to draw accolades, including a first-place award by the prestigious L’Association Pour le Promotion Artistique Francais. Hallam has been honored through innumerable one-man exhibitions around the world and is a mainstay at all nine Martin Lawrence galleries locations across the country. Hallam is also the author of – Getting to Nantucket, An Artist’s Journey.
