TORONTO, Dec. 07, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Though Canadians’ enthusiasm for fine wine has grown to a fever pitch, many of them haven’t given a thought to how their favourite beverage comes to life. Now, with the new season of #wineschool just around the bend and the holiday season on the horizon, Torontonians can experience the winemaking process for themselves at the #wineschool open house on December 14.

Beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a media-only event, owner and winemaker Charles Fajgenbaum will demonstrate various winemaking processes to the Toronto media. Fajgenbaum, who imports grapes from premium vineyards around the world to teach his students the secrets of making fine wine, will take questions from the media after the demonstration.

Says Fajgenbaum, “We want people to learn why they love wine and not to be intimidated by it. The best way to learn and appreciate wine is to be part of all aspects of it. #Wineschool gives people a hands-on winemaking experience. Our students will learn how to taste and evaluate wines, as well as how to pair wines with food.”

At the event, Fermentations will serve wines from previous #wineschool sessions, including Fajgenbaum's 2017 silver medal-winning Pinot Noir, crafted from grapes from Chile’s Colchagua Valley.  The wine will be served with Spanish-inspired tapas, along with some of his other medal-winning wines made from Spain’s Monsant Appellation.

The product of Fajgenbaum’s passion for great wine, #wineschool began when some of his customers, fascinated by his winemaking process, expressed interest in a full course in winemaking. He says, “In 2012, I began importing these grapes, selling them to home winemakers under the Grapemasters brand, also using them for our in-house winemaking. With hundreds of medals awarded to wines made with these grapes, more and more home winemakers, as well as people using on-premise winemaking services flocked to Fermentations!. #Wineschool is a natural extension of our business. It gives clients a hands-on experience that is not only fun and informative, but lets them bottle wines at a third of the cost of buying comparable wines at retail prices.”

Fajgenbaum provides #wineschool participants with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Syrah, Carignan and Grenache Noir grapes, allowing them to make wines from a single varietal grape or from blends from different regions. Participants learn how to evaluate grapes and use the tools winemakers use to measure grapes for winemaking, determine fermentation strategies, press, age and ultimately bottle 72 bottles of exceptional wine.

The media open house will take place between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. at Fermentations!, located at 201 Danforth Avenue in Toronto. A public session will follow the media-only event. Toronto’s go-to centre for fermented alcoholic beverages, Fermentations! ( provides its clients with the opportunity to create their own beverages, including wines, beers, cider, and mead. Assisted by Fermentations! award-winning winemaker, clients grow in confidence as they learn more about the process. Members of the press may RSVP or request further information, including photos and a private tasting, by contacting owner Charles Fajgenbaum.
