Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters’ Philadelphia Team Room Helps Refurbish Veterans Multi-Service Center to Give Back to Veterans

PHILADELPHIA, Pa., Dec. 07, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sixteen floor layers and carpenters from the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters’ Locals 251 and 158 teamed with the District Council 21 Painters Union to refurbish the Veterans Multi-Service Center located at 213 N. 4th Street in Philadelphia. The facility, which assists struggling veterans with employment and provides transitional housing for the homeless, serves more than 3,500 veterans and families annually.

The three-week charity project was completed on November 16 and coordinated by the NRCC’s Philadelphia Team Room. In addition to installing new vinyl based carpet tiling in the building’s common area, the workers also enhanced the room with a fresh coat of paint. Both the new flooring materials and paint were donated for the project by Findlay Installation Services and Sherwin Williams respectively.

“We are so grateful that the NRCC dedicated their time to serve our veterans in need for the holiday season,” said Debby Derricks, Director of Development for the Veterans Multi-Service Center. “In just a few days, they remodeled an entire floor of the building and greatly enhanced the warm, welcoming environment that our veterans deserve.”

In addition to the updated interior, the NRCC has adopted the Veterans Multi-Service Center to provide maintenance when needed in the future at no cost. They are scheduled to renew the floors and paint the walls in Veteran Multi-Service Center offices in the coming weeks.

“We are very proud to see our Floor Layers utilizing their skills to help those who served,” said Robert Naughton, NRCC’s Tri-State Regional Manager. “We strive to teach our apprentices early in the training process to use their carpentry skills to serve the greater good.”
