Cheetah Mobile Growth Accelerates with 900 million+ Installations of Clean Master, Partnership with Billion Dollar Content Provider Bytedance, and Other Milestones

PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec. 13, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cheetah Mobile Inc. (NYSE:CMCM), the leading mobile utility and content app developer, is closing out the year with several milestones to its credit, demonstrating increased growth with leading apps such as Clean Master for Android and Clean Master for PC. In addition, the company recently announced a strategic partnership with Bytedance, a fast growing provider of content platforms valued at around US $20 billion, that bolsters its service portfolio to support further expansion of the company’s global footprint.

As a subsidiary of Kingsoft Corporation, China's leading Internet services and software company, Cheetah Mobile exemplifies the success of the rapidly growing Chinese software development industry. According to an IBISWorld report published earlier this year, the software development industry in China is expected to generate $797.5 billion in 2017, up 6.5 percent from 2016. The industry has grown strongly at an average annual rate of 13.9 percent over the past five years.

Today, Cheetah Mobile has nearly four billion global installs and more than 580 million monthly active users, with 70 percent of its users located outside of China. In addition, the company has established relationships with industry leaders that include Facebook, Google, Twitter and Yahoo!.

Clean Master for Android Celebrates 5-year Anniversary
September marked five years since the debut of Clean Master for Android, which has cleaned and optimized the performance of Android phones in more than 140 countries. In just one day, Clean Master cleans 5.1 billion MB of junk files globally, adding up to 5,100 terabyte drives or, stacked up, nearly as high as the tallest building in the world.

Recognized as the most popular mobile utility application available (cite), Clean Master for Android has accumulated more than 900 million downloads worldwide, maintains a 4.7 star (out of 5) status from 40 million+ ratings on Google Play, and has embraced more than 29 million Facebook followers.

Artificial Intelligence Powers Clean Master for PC; Privacy is Priority
With the recent launch of its all new Clean Master for PC, Cheetah Mobile is expanding the capabilities of the mobile app to Windows PC users.

In contrast to other utility solutions, Clean Master for PC uses a more advanced and personalized approach, leveraging the company’s extensive knowledge of artificial intelligence technology to analyze user devices. In addition, the app refers to user selection history to accurately recommend items that should be cleaned and/or optimized for performance. This provides for a much more thorough and measurable performance boost as a result.

Privacy is a key priority and Clean Master for PC has been designed to remove user junk files, media and system data, cache, patch, log, temporary, and other unnecessary data without outside exposure. User information that has been analyzed is neither saved, transferred from the PC, nor disclosed. Cheetah Mobile is a top utility application partner of Facebook and Google, with its privacy protection recognized by both. And the app itself enables users to quickly eliminate six types of privacy risks, lock out intruders, and remove risky browsing records with the anti-tracking feature.

Strategic Partnership with Bytedance
Another milestone was achieved with the announcement of Cheetah Mobile’s strategic partnership with Bytedance, a fast growing provider of content platforms that enable people to connect with, consume and create content through machine learning technology. With nearly 200 million daily active users across all of its products, the company’s flagship product, Toutiao, is the largest AI-powered content platform in China. Bytedance has invested 50 million dollars into Cheetah Mobile’s Live.me mobile streaming app, and 86.6 million dollars to acquire News Republic, a media aggregator service owned by Cheetah Mobile.

The partnership will increase the pace at which Cheetah Mobile further expands its footprint in North America and around the world, and allow users to access Bytedance’s personalized content delivery services in the global market. Bytedance will be able to bring its AI-powered content distribution services to more users by leveraging Cheetah Mobile’s global reach.

“This has been a pivotal year for Cheetah Mobile in a number of ways, and we’re excited about what we’ve achieved,” said Jerry Li, General Manager of R&D Center of PC Products, Cheetah Mobile. “Each of these accomplishments fuels our broader set of capabilities as we accelerate the execution of our content strategy around the world and continue to deliver quality products to users.”
