NorQuest College asks, ‘What does Canada mean to you?’

EDMONTON, Alberta, Dec. 19, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With a new year comes renewed hopes, dreams, and aspirations of just how Canada can continue to be a global leader in human rights, democracy, and freedoms.

As part of the on-going Canada 150 celebrations, and to remind current and aspiring Canadians of just how lucky we are to live in this country, NorQuest College in the Edmonton region is leading a national online cultural awareness campaign entitled My Canada My Story.

Funded by the Government of Canada - Canadian Heritage Department, and with support from partners across Canada including other post-secondaries, private industry leaders, and community organizations, we continue to ask Canadians what Canada means to them.

“NorQuest College's Centre for Intercultural Education initiated this project because we believe that Canada is a great country where all thoughts and perspectives are respected. We want to be inclusive in this endeavor so we can celebrate our country and its diversity,” says NorQuest vice president of business development, Marian Gayed. “This is a very NorQuest way of contributing to Canada 150 celebrations. Our college is incredibly diverse with 103 languages spoken on campus and we want to better understand, support, and celebrate what it means to be Canadian.”

The Centre for Intercultural Education is recognized regionally and nationally as a leader in diversity and inclusion programming, customized corporate training solutions, and innovative applied research.

So how does the campaign work? Simply tell us what Canada means to you:

  • Ask yourself, what does Canada mean to you?
  • What do the next 150 years hold for us?
  • Tell us what makes you proud to be Canadian.

Participants can write a short story, poem, or share in a few simple words what Canada means to them. Video blogs and photos are also welcome. Submit directly to www.mycanadamystory.ca or share through social media by tagging @mycanadamystory.

Individuals who submit their story before January 31, 2018 will be entered to win a $500 pre-paid visa gift card.
