StandardVision to Program New Year’s Eve Lighting Spectacular at the Wilshire Grand Center in Downtown Los Angeles

StandardVision and Hanjin partner to ring in the New Year with dramatic lightshow countdown at iconic DTLA property

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 21, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- StandardVision, LLC (“StandardVision”), a leading provider of experiential and architecturally integrated media solutions, today announced details for the inaugural New Year’s Eve lightshow countdown on the Wilshire Grand Center in Downtown Los Angeles. Deemed ‘The Rise’, the narrative lighting will ascend the spine of the development as time inches toward 2018.

Starting at 6:00 p.m. PT on New Year’s Eve, the 73-story vertical spine of the Wilshire Grand Center will begin filling-up with color incrementally in perfect synchronization with the passage of time. Each hour, there will be a momentary variation and a foreshadowing of what’s to come. Exactly at 11:59 p.m. PT, a bold, clear 60-second countdown will begin on the crown signage display on both sides of the building. The brilliance of the Wilshire Grand Center’s crown signage will make the countdown visible for an approximate 15 mile radius surrounding Los Angeles. At midnight, a surprise grand finale will usher in the New Year.

The iconic skyscraper, which is owned by Hanjin International Corp. (“Hanjin”), includes the 889-room InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown hotel and cutting-edge restaurants, along with an expansive office complex.  Soaring 1,100 feet into the sky, the building is the tallest structure in the Los Angeles skyline. Since the property’s opening in June 2017, StandardVision has been programming and operating the Wilshire Grand Center’s state-of-the-art exterior narrative lighting features.

“While New York City has its world-renowned ‘ball drop’ in Times Square, Los Angeles will now have its very own visual New Year’s Eve celebration, giving Angelenos an exciting new annual tradition,” said Adrian Velicescu, StandardVision’s CEO & Chief Creative Officer. “This New Year’s lightshow will be a harbinger of the future for this iconic property. Through our partnership with Hanjin, the Wilshire Grand Center and its dynamic narrative lighting elements will act as a beacon of national and civic pride, and New Year’s Eve marks the beginning of light celebrations to come.”

The full spectacular of the Wilshire Grand Center’s New Year’s Eve lighting celebration can be viewed from outlying areas with a clear view of the DTLA skyline. Additionally, InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown’s Spire 73 rooftop bar will host a New Year’s Eve celebration. For tickets visit dtla.intercontinental.com/dining.
