zGlue Awarded Design Win for Sentinel™ Bandage

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF., Jan. 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- zGlue, the first semiconductor/SaaS company to stack chips on demand by integrating the essential pieces of any connected “smart thing” for the Internet of Things (IoT) era, today announced it has been selected by Vitruvian Medical Devices, a university start-up focused on developing easy to use, wound care products, to design and build the System on a Chip (SoC) for Vitruvian’s new Sentinel Bandage. Utilizing zGlue’s unique ZiP™ (zGlue Integration Platform) will drastically reduce the time to market and cost to develop Sentinel’s system design. Sentinel Bandage is a flexible, highly sensitive and accurate device that assesses skin integrity via impedance spectroscopy. This non-invasive, disposable “smart bandage” works by passing small currents through a two-dimensional array of electrodes. Rapid and automated measurements between electrodes subsequently yield a map of impedance differences that distinguishes between healthy and damaged skin.

“Vitruvian Medical Devices is focused on developing innovative products that help patients recover from surgery and medical illnesses,” said Dr. Hobart Harris, founder and CEO of Vitruvian and Chief of General Surgery at UCSF. “The very small size and low power/extended battery life features for the Sentinel Bandage, which are derived from the electronics, are crucial to its performance, ease of use, and successful adoption by physicians, allied health providers and patients. We are pleased to leverage zGlue’s ZiP design for a product that will help patients recover faster, reduce complications and lower overall healthcare costs,” Harris concluded.

“Meeting medical specifications with manufacturability and cost-effectiveness are very important to us,” said Dr. David Young, Vitruvian principal and Professor of Plastic Surgery at UCSF. “The current options are impractical and costly. By choosing zGlue’s ZiP design for Sentinel Bandage, we get automatic hardware and software development environments that enable our team to immediately begin validating product/market fit and function. This helps shorten the cycle time to move into the next phase of product trials and toward market launch.”

Said Ming Zhang, zGlue co-founder and CEO, “As the IoT market growth is further enabled and accelerated by zGlue’s technology, we see Medical and Healthcare applications as a major focus area with potential usage in tens and hundreds of millions of units. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to work with and support Vitruvian’s world-class founding team from UCSF who are using their deep domain knowledge to transform the wound healing space, and to help their vision for the next big medical product become a reality.”

About zGlue

Founded in 2014, zGlue is working to build a future in which a product idea can turn into a software model in minutes and become a finished product in days. zGlue’s mission is to give the visionaries, builders, and explorers of the IoT industry a faster and cheaper way to launch a new product, with the same rich features and integration that only a dedicated SoC can enable, without the upfront cost and lengthy time of chip development, manufacturing, and volume production. zGlue wants to give everyone access to the power of Moore’s Law, the wonder of semiconductor technology, and help them turn their ideas into products.
