Philanthropitch San Antonio Presented by The Bank of San Antonio Announces Nonprofit Finalists For Social Innovation Fast-Pitch Event

Happening February 27 at the Tobin Center, Philanthropitch Awards Event Proceeds To Benefit Nonprofits in San Antonio’s First Annual ‘Un-Gala’

San Antonio, Texas, Jan. 31, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Philanthropitch, the social impact fast-pitch event that helps innovative nonprofits scale sustainable models, today announced the 7 finalists destined to take the stage in the live, audience participation event. Presented by The Bank of San Antonio, finalists including Youth Code Jam, Hemisfair Conservancy, Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas, VETTED, Reasoning Mind, Restore Education, and MOVE San Antonio will participate in the first annual event on February 27th in the H-E-B Performance Hall of the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are available now at the Tobin Center website.

“The Hemisfair Conservancy team is thrilled to have the opportunity to be involved in the first Philanthropitch San Antonio! The transformation of Hemisfair has required numerous innovative solutions in response to redeveloping the formerly neglected site of the 1968 World’s Fair. We want to be agile, creative and thoughtful in our approach to secure the most sustainable future for the parks. By participating in Philanthropitch, we benefit from valuable advice that will help us take our funding strategies to the next level for the benefit of the San Antonio community,” said Anne Krause, Executive Director at Hemisfair Conservancy.

Each nonprofit finalist undergoes nearly 2 months of review before being selected by the Philanthropitch team based on the scalability and sustainability of their impact-based model. Over 40 San Antonio area nonprofits applied to participate in the city’s first Philanthropitch event to pitch for human and financial capital, volunteers, mentoring opportunities and more. The live event is co-hosted on stage by The Bank of San Antonio Chairman, J. Bruce Bugg, Jr., and Notley Co-Founder, Lisa Graham.

"We are honored to be the presenting sponsor for the first annual Philanthropitch San Antonio at The Tobin," said J. Bruce Bugg, Jr., Chairman of the Board of The Bank of San Antonio. "This event will showcase our city's innovative nonprofit community and enable future growth."

Pitch judges include successful entrepreneurs and philanthropists who invest their personal funds into nonprofit finalists of their choice. The list of judges include:

  • Jenna Saucedo-Herrera, President & CEO of San Antonio Economic Development Foundation
  •  Lew Moorman, Founder & General Partner of Scaleworks
  • John Eadie, Founder & Managing Director of Covenant
  • Cristal Glangchai, Founding Director of the Blackstone Launchpad at The University of Texas at Austin; Author of VentureGirls
  • Kate Rogers, Executive Vice President of The Holdsworth Center
  • Lisa Fullerton, President & CEO of A Novel Idea

Philanthropitch is redefining how corporations and communities award charitable donations while establishing an ecosystem that prizes social innovation in the nonprofit sector. Instead of attending the traditional fundraising gala, audience members can text-to-vote for their favorite nonprofit finalist to receive the event’s ticket proceeds as part of the Audience Choice Award.

“At Notley, we’re excited to bring Philanthropitch’s social impact fast-pitch event to San Antonio’s community of purpose-driven nonprofits,” said Lisa Graham, Co-founder of Notley. “The Philanthropitch model is about channeling best practices and expanding upon the most impactful programs. Through this event, we hope to spread socially-minded approaches that are scalable and sustainable across our communities.”

Corporate teams also attend Philanthropitch and collectively evaluate the finalist pitches to decide which nonprofits receive their business’s funds on stage during a branded check presentation. San Antonio corporate supporters include Valero, HOLT CAT, DOCUmation, USAA and Argo Group.

Nonprofits walk away from the event not only with the capital to implement their model, but also new skills-based volunteers, donors and coaches for ongoing success. Founded in 2013 in Austin, Philanthropitch has awarded more than $500,000 to empower nonprofits to expand their impact.

The first annual Philanthropitch San Antonio is sponsored in part by The Bank of San Antonio, The Tobin Endowment, Overland Partners, The 80/20 Foundation, NatureSweet, Whataburger and Covenant. To learn more, visit www.philanthropitch.org or visit the Tobin Center website.
