Alectra supports local communities with $385,000 United Way donation

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, March 02, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Alectra Utilities presented United Way with a cheque for $385,180.50 Friday in support of the communities served by the utility in Hamilton, Simcoe Country, St. Catharines, Peel and York Regions.

The announcement was made at Alectra’s head office on Friday as part of an official cheque presentation involving several company officials including Norm Loberg, Alectra’s Board Chair; Brian Bentz, President and CEO, Alectra Inc.; Max Cananzi, President, Alectra Utilities; Bill Schmidt, VP Information Technology and Campaign co-chair.

The $385,000 cheque was presented to Raj Chandegra, Manager Resource Development, United Way Peel Region; Ciaran McGeown, Manager, Corporate Donor Relations, United Way Toronto & York Region; Mary Thomas, Director Strategic Development, United Way Simcoe County; Christine Lynch, Resource Development Manager, United Way Halton-Hamilton; and Mandy Cavasin, Campaign Associate, United Way St. Catharines.

The funds were raised through multiple initiatives Alectra Utilities’ employees held throughout 2017, including the company’s annual charity golf tournament and an employee driven United Way campaign which generated over $85,000 alone.

“Giving back to the communities we serve is an integral part of Alectra’s values,” says Brian Bentz, President and CEO of Alectra Inc. “As we move forward in building our company, supporting charitable organizations like the United Way will continue to be important to our management and staff, Board of Directors and Shareholders.”

Alectra is proud to help foster sustainable communities by focusing on economic efficiency, social equity and environmental accountability.  The donation is in addition to the already $90,000 delivered to the Mississauga Food Bank and $15,000 for Peel Children’s Centre.
