If We Face Common Challenges and Opportunities Together, Americans and Mexicans Will Be Stronger: Ricardo Salinas

MEXICO CITY, March 02, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Grupo Salinas, a group of dynamic, fast-growing and technologically advanced companies, deeply committed to the modernization of the countries where they operate, announced today that its founder, Ricardo Salinas, stated in an article in The Boston Globe that the United States and Mexico will be stronger if we face common challenges and opportunities together.

Mr. Salinas indicates there is currently a puzzling paradox. Many people in the US seem to blame important domestic problems on people from Mexico, but simultaneously, all around the world, especially in the United States, there seems to be an endless charm about all things Mexican.

There is a growing attraction to our wine and our cuisine, and the fascination with Mexican traditions, architecture, painters, music and movies continues on the rise.

Mr. Salinas mentions the 90th Academy Awards are a good excuse to talk about our cultural affinities, since Mexico has taken a central place at the Oscars in the last few years. Film directors and pioneers of contemporary Mexican cinema, Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu, Alfonso Cuarón and Guillermo del Toro have brought fresh views to Hollywood. The movies they directed or produced have dominated the Academy’s nominations and top awards.

Mexico is also the top travel destination for Americans abroad. In 2016, 31 million US residents took a trip south of the border, and more than one million Americans reside in Mexico, being the country where the most Americans live abroad.

Fostering a productive relationship between Mexico and the United Sates begins with the acknowledgement that we have vast and strong cultural affinities, that our people are more similar than media would have us believe.

Both Mexicans and Americans cherish individuality, self-reliance, and are willing to fight for freedom. We believe that through hard work we can achieve anything. Our people are resilient and tough before adversity. We are eager to help those in need and are quick to come together when our communities face emergencies or struggles.

The things that we share, good and bad, grow every year. Presidents will come and go and our countries will share a border for centuries to come. We all gain from a constructive engagement between our two nations. We have much more in common than we can imagine; let us build on that.

Ricardo Salinas has the firm commitment to present ideas that are oriented to generate increased wellbeing and prosperity to the society.  To read the full article please visit: https://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/2018/03/02/the-enduring-bond-between-and-mexico/u2b3cXRvF9zruxeLRvq37K/story.html
