BATON ROUGE, La., March 15, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Amedisys, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMED), one of the nation’s leading home healthcare, hospice and personal care companies, received an average rating of 4.22 Stars out of a possible 5 for Quality of Patient Care across its home health care centers from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) January Star Ratings release.
That figure is nearly 30 percent above the industry average and represents an almost 8 percent increase from Amedisys’ Quality of Patient Care rating from a year ago. Also, 88 percent of Amedisys’ home health care centers achieved a rating of 4 Stars or better.

Amedisys had 19 providers, including 30 care centers, that achieved a 5-Star rating. According to the April 2018 Preview, that figure will likely increase to 29 providers, representing 54 care centers, with 56 percent of home health agencies achieving 4.5 Stars or more.

According to CMS, its Home Health Compare website is designed to be a key tool for consumers to choose a home health provider – an “easy-to-access, convenient source of authoritative information on provider quality.” In 2015, CMS added to its reporting system a one-to-five Star Rating to “summarize” 24 measures of provider performance such as “timely initiation of care” and “improvement in ambulation.”
