311 Mapleton Ownership Group Donates Robb’s Boulder Music Sign to Museum of Boulder

Boulder, March 16, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Even though Robb’s Boulder Music has closed, its iconic sign will soon become a fixture as part of the Museum of Boulder’s permanent artifact collection, thanks to a donation by the site’s new owners, the 311 Mapleton ownership group. The Museum of Boulder, previously known as the Boulder History Museum, will open on May 19 in their new location at Broadway and Pine streets.

Under a deal announced last year, the 311 Mapleton ownership group is partnering with the City of Boulder and Bridge House to transform the former music store, located at 2691 30th St., into a hub for homeless services for about two years—filling a desperately needed component in the City’s new homelessness strategy. Later, the site will be redeveloped into approximately 50 units of affordable housing. This donation is the latest charitable activity on the part of the 311 Mapleton ownership group, which has been active with such Boulder County nonprofits as Bridge House, I Have a Dream Foundation, Boulder youth soccer leagues and many more.

"We are passionate about preserving Boulder’s incredible history, and we jumped at the opportunity to donate this iconic piece of Boulder’s history to the Museum so that it can be safely preserved and viewed by all,” said Don Altman, one of the site’s new owners. “We are very proud of our role in working with the City and Bridge House to redevelop Robb's so we can achieve short-term needs for homeless navigation services and longer-term housing goals.”

“We are incredibly grateful to the 311 Mapleton ownership group for this donation,” said Nancy Geyer, the executive director of the Museum of Boulder. “The Robb’s Music sign holds such special memories for generations of Boulder residents, and we are honored to house it in our permanent collection.”
