Iowa Now Providing Appriss Health’s PMP Aware and NarxCare Substance Use Disorder Platforms toAll Prescribers and Pharmacists Statewide

PMP Aware and NarxCare to Help All Iowa Prescribers and Pharmacists Identify, Manage and Prevent Prescription Drug Misuse, Abuse and Diversion

Louisville, KY, April 25, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Appriss Health, provider of the most comprehensive platform for substance use disorder (SUD) in the U.S., today announced that it signed an enterprise license agreement with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy to successfully transition from its legacy prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) to Appriss Health's PMP Aware platform and NarxCare substance use disorder software. Through this state-sponsored program, access is provided to NarxCare, an advanced analytics and patient support platform, today, to all eligible prescribers and pharmacists in Iowa.

PMP Aware and NarxCare together aggregate and analyze prescription information from providers and pharmacies and present visual, interactive information, as well as advanced analytic insights, machine learning risk scores and more to help physicians, pharmacists and care teams to provide better patient safety and outcomes up front, for every patient, every time. NarxCare also provides tools and resources that support patients’ needs and connects them to treatment, when appropriate.

“The Iowa Board of Pharmacy promotes, preserves, and protects the public health, safety, and welfare by fostering the provision of pharmaceutical care to all Iowans,” said Andrew Funk, Executive Director, Iowa Board of Pharmacy. “In order to help better protect public health, the Iowa Board of Pharmacy has a leadership role in developing, implementing, and enforcing appropriate standards of care. As we continuously strive to provide optimal service to the public by utilizing resources in an efficient, effective, and responsive manner we are very pleased to be able to upgrade our prescription drug monitoring program to Appriss Health’s innovative and intelligent PMP Aware and NarxCare SUD platforms. These improvements to our PDMP will help clinicians identify patients at risk of an overdose early on, direct those patients for treatment, and save lives in Iowa.”

Iowa has a total population of more than 3.1 million people. The Iowa PDMP serves more than 14,000 prescribers and nearly 800 pharmacies in the state.

This NarxCare enterprise license agreement enables Iowa to deliver access to all of the features and functions of NarxCare with a consistent look and feel for users who access the solution through their state PDMP web portal. It also enables delivery of NarxCare within electronic health record (EHR) and pharmacy management systems for those prescribers and dispensers in Iowa who choose to access NarxCare through integration within their healthcare IT system via Appriss Health’s PMP Gateway solution.

“We are extremely proud to partner with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy to deliver PMP Aware and NarxCare to all prescribers and pharmacists in the state and to help enhance the Iowa prescription drug monitoring program’s overall efficiency and effectiveness by acting with haste to implement these new technologies in the face of the ongoing opioid epidemic,” said Rob Cohen, President, Appriss Health. “With these actions, the Iowa Board of Pharmacy demonstrates a forward-thinking and aggressive approach to identifying, managing and preventing prescription drug misuse, abuse and diversion in their state. Iowa is now on the forefront of making their PDMP the center point for a wide range of data, analytics, resources and technology to maximize their PDMP, as they continue to contend with the opioid epidemic.”
