Park Electrochemical Corp. Announces Qualification of Electroglide® Lightning Strike Protection Prepreg by a Major Aerospace OEM

MELVILLE, N.Y., May 02, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Park Electrochemical Corp. (NYSE:PKE) announced that its recently introduced Electroglide Lightning Strike Protection Prepreg has been qualified by a major aerospace OEM for use on composite engine nacelle structures for a major civilian aircraft program.  Park's Electroglide material, which is qualified for both hand lay-up and automated fiber placement (AFP) applications, is currently entering into production on this major aircraft program.

Many new aircraft produced today are built with lightweight composite structures which are not as conductive as structures built with aluminum.  For this reason, composite materials used to construct aircraft structures are embedded with a metal mesh which acts to dissipate the energy from a lightning strike. Park’s Electroglide Lightning Strike Protection Prepreg has undergone stringent testing by an independent certified laboratory.  Electroglide was exposed to electrical charges up to 200,000 amperes of current with no failures.

Electroglide is an epoxy based lightning strike protection system compatible with most epoxy prepregs, primers and paints, and offers excellent protection from lightning strikes, in addition to providing a smooth aesthetic finish reducing paint surface preparation time.  Electroglide has superior handling during lay-up, due to its flow characteristics, high tack and superior drapability. Park’s Electroglide Lightning Strike Protection Prepreg is available in a variety of weights and substrates (aluminum or copper) and in natural or black.
