CAMP CORRAL RECEIVES $1.25 MILLION GRANT DONATION FROM THE BB&T CHARITABLE FUND

Raleigh, NC, May 15, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Camp Corral, a leading nonprofit advocate for military families, recently received a $1.25 million grant from the BB&T Charitable Fund. The donation will allow Camp Corral to preserve their standard of excellence and become one of the best programs for military children in the country.

“We are extremely appreciative of BB&T and their commitment to helping us care for our country’s youngest heroes,” said Leigh Longino, CEO of Camp Corral. “Camp Corral is more than a week of fun away from home. It’s also a chance to connect with kids from similar backgrounds, learn coping skills and build self-confidence.”

Camp Corral, a nonprofit organization that provides a free week of summer camp to the children of wounded, injured, ill or fallen military heroes, was established in 2011 by Golden Corral founder James Maynard and his daughter Easter. Since its founding, the organization has served more than 17,000 military children. For the 2018 camp season, Camp Corral will host 24 camp sessions across 19 states. Camp Corral’s research shows that 87 percent of children who attend camp more than once experience positive, lasting changes in self-confidence, less stress and better academic performance. Many families report that Camp Corral is the only resource currently available where their children can connect with other military children.

“We are proud to be a part of the inspiring work Camp Corral is doing across the country, and ultimately give more of our military children the chance to experience camp,” said Ray McCulloch, BB&T Retirement and Institutional Services Division Manager. “BB&T is thrilled to grow this historic partnership with Camp Corral and Golden Corral. When three born and bred North Carolina organizations come together, you can always expect great things.”

Camp Corral estimates 3,800 youth between the ages of 8 and 15 will attend camp this year. Over 80 percent of Camp Corral campers come from veteran families, where resources are even more limited, and 91 percent of campers have a parent that is wounded, injured, ill or fallen. Camp Corral is headquartered in Raleigh, N.C.
