Finally a Real Change in Ontario Healthcare - HomeMD Introduces Innovative App in Toronto Providing Full and Easy Access to Medical Care

TORONTO, June 05, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- HomeMD, a Canadian company based in Toronto has launched a medical services App that appears to be ushering in a fresh and revolutionary approach to accessing comprehensive medical services without looking further than your smartphone. The premise is that by downloading the HomeMD App it will improve your access to healthcare by bringing quality medical care closer to home. HomeMD is a client centered health care service that starts with a simple download of an App. To eliminate the frustration of waiting for advance appointments and time wasted in waiting rooms, the HomeMD experience begins with a virtual care platform that offers on-demand access to nurse practitioners through secure, encrypted video interaction, home visits and visits to their clinic located in mid-town Toronto. For a subscription fee of $50 per month for adults and $25 per month for children, one is entitled to unlimited access to medical video consultations, medical home visits and clinic visits.

HomeMD was created by a brother and sister team, Alon Birshtein, Co-founder and CEO and Simona Shnaider, Co-founder. Filling a void in our current system was their primary motivation for creating the App and launching the service in October 2017.  “The most important void the HomeMD App is filling is the one of full and easy access to medical care. By combining all three areas of medicine; telemedicine, medical house calls and clinic visits, we have taken access to medical care to a whole new level. Whereas some new medical services are doing house calls and others are doing video consultations, no one is doing all three,” said co-founder Simona Shnaider.

The monthly subscription fee includes unlimited access to all three service options: unlimited video appointments, unlimited house calls and unlimited visits to HomeMD’s state-of-the-art mid-town Toronto clinic. Simona states, “There are no surprise charges or hidden fees. Not even for e-visits for prescription renewals.”  Reception to the HomeMD App from new users has also been positive, said founder and CEO, Alon Birshtein, noting that “we have a 30 day free trial and currently have a 100% retention rate. The bottom line is once you try the App there is almost no way you will want to cancel.”

Using nurse practitioners (NP’s) in their medical services model was crucial to the success of the App. The HomeMD founders believe that nurse practitioners are the future of primary family medical care in Ontario and Canada. 3 million Canadians are already receiving primary care from nurse practitioners, who are licensed professionals able to diagnose, treat and prescribe medication. Mr. Birshtein notes that “nurse practitioners have the education and authority to diagnose, order and interpret lab and diagnostic tests, comprehensively assess and diagnose, prescribe medication, set course of treatment as well as perform a range of procedures. They also offer personalized care and an authentic human connection that creates a strong rapport with their patients.”

After 6 months of launching the service they decided to expand their service area in May 2018.  Birshtein states, “due to overwhelming demand, the original service area focusing on mid-town Toronto has recently been expanded to almost the entire GTA, making HomeMD the most accessible primary health care provider in our area for the entire family. We have been so pleased with the initial response that plans to expand across Ontario and throughout Canada are underway.”
