Proofpoint Achieves In Process FedRAMP Status for Targeted Attack Protection (TAP)

Leading cybersecurity company’s comprehensive email protection detects, analyzes, and blocks advanced threats before they reach the inbox

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 05, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Proofpoint, Inc., (NASDAQ:PFPT), today announced its flagship Targeted Attack Protection (TAP) solution has achieved In Process status for the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP), under the sponsorship of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Thousands of organizations trust TAP to effectively stop advanced email threats delivered through malicious attachments and URLs, including zero-day threats, polymorphic malware, weaponized documents, and phishing attacks.

“More than 90 percent of all cyberattacks start with an email—and Proofpoint has been on the frontlines of securing this critical communication channel for over a decade,” said Tony D’Angelo, vice president of Federal for Proofpoint. “Federal agencies need a security technology partner that can scale to their needs, is aligned with their budgets, provides the most effective defenses, and continues to innovate as the threat landscape shifts. We provide that and more to the public sector. Today’s FedRAMP In Process announcement is the latest example of our ongoing commitment to our nation’s federal agencies.”

The government-wide Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, or FedRAMP, provides a standardized approach for cloud product/service assessments and monitoring, which reduces an estimated 30-40 percent of government IT costs. Achieving the FedRAMP In Process designation signifies that Proofpoint is actively working towards a FedRAMP Agency Authorization and the FCC plans on granting an Authority to Operate (ATO) that meets FedRAMP requirements within 12 months.

Proofpoint Targeted Attack Protection prevents malicious attachments and websites from reaching end users through email using a combination of dynamic and static deep analysis and sandboxing, coupled with detailed forensic and threat intelligence. Deployed as a cloud service, TAP provides clear visibility and control into all email communications to identify threats that other solutions miss. With TAP, security teams can:

  • Block and quarantine messages with malicious attachments or malicious URLs, stopping delivery to the inbox and reducing the risk that users will click on them and become compromised.
  • View detailed intelligence about attachments and URLs that TAP confirms are malicious.
  • Transparently rewrite all embedded URLs to protect users on any device or network. Track and block clicks to malicious web pages without affecting the user experience or other URL-filtering technologies.
