Craig McConnon Group values old school Ibiza vibes

Craig McConnon just took three days out to check out the Ibiza scene and it was simply epic. “The scene is electric,” said Craig McConnon. “Despite the huge strides in technology, the old school Ibiza vibes are still there. It's really still where my heart is, with the emphasis still firmly on awesome beats, great production, superb showmanship and high end decoration.”

The Craig McConnon Group maintains regular appearances at Ibiza, being fully aware that is where club life lives, breathes and has its source. Craig McConnon spent a great deal of time working the mixers at Ibiza in earlier years and still keeps up the contact, trying out new desks, software, multitracks and converters, as well as outboard, monitoring, direct boxes and microphones. It's not all about the equipment though.

Craig McConnon and The Craig McConnon Group are attuned to the development of rising trends in the club and DJ industry, taking note of new waves before they crest to bring customers the best possible experience at their own customised events. “We find most of our clients want their event to contain the Ibiza experience, but have it personal and bespoke to their tastes and needs so it goes off perfect from the word go, so that's what we deliver” says Craig McConnon. “Our approach is to keep our finger on the pulse of everything that's going down at Ibiza, get the best, package it correctly and have it fit for purpose on event day.”

The Craig McConnon Group has numerous scouts on the ground in Ibiza checking out the scene and taking careful notes of what works – and what doesn't. “Sometimes something sounds like it's going to be awesome and then it's just not,” said a company spokesman. “So we try it all out. It's never just one person's opinion because everyone has different tastes, but sometimes you just know when a gig is flying and when it's not. We work out exactly where the difficulties are and how we can make sure that never happens to us.” Common issues that can creep in include equipment that doesn't operate as expected, inexperienced DJs and a venue that simply doesn't blend with the event and lineup.

Craig McConnon has decades of exposure to the club and event scene and can troubleshoot events before problems start seeping through the cracks like no other. “Sometimes people have great ideas for their event and it all sounds great in conversation and looks awesome on paper, but when you start working through the numbers, you get the idea that this just isn't going to go down as it should,” says Craig McConnon. “Thankfully I have enough experience to know when something's not going to fly and exactly how to tweak it so that the original idea is intact but the common issues won't crop up to ruin the day.”

The Craig McConnon Group has been going through the same paces at Ibiza, taking it as a lab experience on exactly what works and what doesn't and what tweaks are necessary. “We really respect the artists at Ibiza,” says Craig McConnon. “I feel like it's my Alma Mater in some kind of deep way, but perfection is rare so you've got to sit up and take note when it happens. It happens at Ibiza more often than not, so it's not just about finding the problems, it's about finding the perfection and working out exactly what it is that makes it so right.”

Craig McConnon takes trips to Ibiza throughout the season to check out the scene and train his new recruits, as well as to put them through their paces. But Ibiza is not just all work and no fun. “I always have a remarkable experience, even if I can only be there for a few nights,” says Craig McConnon. “I don't have much time to take out for myself, so this is really where I get my pleasure and it's just really fortunate that I can mix it up with work and up my game at the same time as having downtime.” Ibiza can hardly be described as downtime, but that's just how Craig McConnon rolls.

The Craig McConnon Group hinted that the Ibiza trip may have locked some exciting happenings back home, but they're keeping that for the next instalment. “We're just tying a few things up,” said Craig McConnon. “So for now we'll just say keep watching this space.”
