Dresner Advisory Services Publishes 2018 Data Catalog Market Study

NASHUA, N.H., June 18, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2018 Data Catalog Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research.  Data catalog defines the requirements of business intelligence (BI) and analytics data consumers to locate, use, and share metadata, data, models, and data elements within an organization.

According to the 2018 Data Catalog Market Study, 47 percent of the research survey respondents indicate that BI and analytics consumers within their organizations find it difficult to locate and access relevant analytic content. Mid- sized and large organizations are most affected. The report also shows that making analytic content easier to locate and access leads to increased success of BI initiatives.

The 2nd annual report examines current use and plans for employing data catalog and related governance, and collaboration features to address the difficulty in finding, sharing, and accessing analytical content. Search and navigation for content is the most requested collaboration feature, followed by annotating and sharing content.  More than 70% of respondents indicate that governing content creation and sharing, via policies, controls and/or applied technologies, is “very important” or “critical” to their organization today.

“Data catalog capabilities place in the top priorities of organizations in our study,” said Bill Hostmann, research fellow at Dresner Advisory Services. “As data complexity continues to increase, we expect these data catalog capabilities will grow in importance.”

Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. BI users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the market.  To purchase a copy of the 2018 Data Catalog Market Study, visit www.datacatalog.report.
