Lakeshore Recycling Systems Honored With 2018 Overall Safety Award by the Solid Waste Association of North America

LRS’ compelling Live Safety initiative differentiated the company as the only waste hauler recognized in this coveted industry award

CHICAGO, June 20, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS), the Midwest’s leading independent recycling and waste diversion provider, has been awarded the 2018 Overall Safety Award from the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA). LRS’ Live Safety initiative demonstrated the LRS safety culture, differentiating LRS as the only waste hauler recognized in this coveted category. The company also was recognized by SWANA, for the second year in a row for the Biggest Safety Improvement Award in the Technical Division of Communication, Education and Marketing.

“SWANA’s Safety Awards program highlights top companies, agencies and facilities who have made excellence in safety attainable through creative strategies and overall commitment,” said David Biderman, SWANA’s Executive Director and CEO. Award winners will be honored at a luncheon on August 22, 2018 at WASTECON® 2018 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Live Safety program focuses on safety education and outreach to all 800 LRS employees, their families, friends and the broader communities and neighborhoods LRS services. Live Safety encourages a safety-first mindset whether at home, work or in recreational activities.

“We are incredibly honored and grateful to SWANA for the esteemed recognition of our safety efforts. Safety is practiced at LRS as a company value and we will continue to spread the importance of safety best practices from our employees to their families and the neighborhoods we serve as we build toward an ecosystem of safety,” said John Sliwicki, LRS Vice President of Risk Management.

LRS has made strides to implement the Live Safety program and to promote safety best practices through flyers, graphics and social media engagement.

“Safety remains at the forefront of everything we do as a company. The waste industry continues to be one of the most dangerous, so increasing safety education and outreach is a core company value we practice daily,” said LRS Chief Executive Officer Alan T. Handley. “On behalf of all LRS employees, we offer our sincere thanks to SWANA for this truly coveted industry honor.”
