Schimenti Construction selected for historic Brill Building renovation

Iconic structure is a New York City Designated Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places

Ridgefield, CT, Aug. 08, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Schimenti Construction has been selected to oversee renovations of another New York City landmark.

The company has begun renovations on the fabled Brill Building, located at 1619 Broadway.

Built in 1931, the eleven-story Brill Building has long been a center of the American music industry. The musicians and songwriters (including Carole King, Burt Bacharach and Neil Diamond) working there created some of the most memorable hits of the early pop era and the building was a mecca for songwriting and music publishing professionals.

After prep work for the landlord and commercial tenants, Schimenti Construction will be upgrading escalators and elevators, replacing roofing and parapets, creating a new terrace on an existing roof setback, and renovating the famous brass art deco entrance.

Schimenti Construction, founded in 1994, has built a strong reputation in the retail construction industry and has developed a solid niche in urban construction. The firm specializes in developing retail shopping environments for some of the nation’s leading retailers and restaurants.

As a preferred contractor in this space, Schimenti Construction is often called upon to manage high profile projects in New York City.

In 2011, renowned outdoor gear and clothing retailer REI commissioned Schimenti Construction to help turn the famed Puck Building (also listed in the National Register of Historic Places) into the company’s flagship New York City retail location.

In 2016, Schimenti was part of the re-opening of the Westfield World Trade center, serving as the general contractor for nine stores in the Oculus, a 78,000 square foot retail and dining centerpiece of the World Trade Center Transportation Hub.

Earlier this year, Schimenti completed the new Hershey’s Chocolate World in Times Square.
