OCNI Commends OPG on their successful milestone on the Darlington Unit 2 Refurbishment


Clarington, Sept. 21, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries (OCNI) congratulates the OPG Darlington Refurbishment team on successfully passing the half-way mark on the Unit 2 Darlington Refurbishment Project, with 65 per cent of the work completed and safely executed.

In support of the Darlington Refurbishment Project and plant operations, OCNI held its second successful vendor day at the Darlington Energy Complex on Wednesday September 19th with more than 85 suppliers from the nuclear industry and more than 600 attendees.

Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster also congratulated OPG Darlington for excellent  performance on a project that will provide clean cost-effective power to the Province for 30 years while bringing and strong economic benefits to the local community.

“Our supply chain is critical to OPG’s continued success because they deliver the quality and innovation needed to deliver bi projects like the $12.8 billion Darlington Refurbishment, on schedule and on budget.” said Steve Gregoris, Senior Site Vice President for OPG Darlington. Steve added:  “the project will allow Darlington to provide 30 more years of safe, reliable baseload power with virtually no smog or carbon emissions; and will have a huge economic benefit to Ontario”. The Conference Board of Canada estimates the Refurbishment project will boost Ontario’s GDP by approximately $89 Billion and create an average of 14,200 new jobs per year over the same period.
