Macedonian Film Festival, October 19 - 21, Announces Winners


TORONTO, Oct. 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The 2018 Macedonian Film Festival (“MFF”) Toronto proudly announces the winners for Best Feature: Secret Ingredient, directed by Gjorce Stavreski; Best Short FilmThe Last Church Bells, directed by Nikola Popovski; Best Documentary Film: Lake of Apples, directed by Ljubomir Stefanov and Tamara Kotevska. 

Our three Festival judges are prominent filmmakers and experts and have returned for another great year: Larry Anklewicz, B.A., LL.B., Christina Pochmursky, Producer/Director & Writer of Walk the Talk Productions Inc., and Frank A. Caruso of Caruso Visual Productions Inc.

Our judges declared Secret Ingredient as Best Feature ... “Well acted, funny, with a heart warming story, very likeable characters, even the bad guys!” ...The Secret Ingredient is also Macedonia’s foreign film entry for the Oscars.

Our winner, Best Short Film The Last Church Bells is about the last remaining occupant of an old abandoned village who uses church bells to communicate with the last remaining occupant of a neighboring village. ”Absurd ending? Or a brilliant take on today’s world?”  

Regarding our Best Documentary Film, Lake of Apples, the judges said, “Beautifully shot, excellent, educational, inspiring & hopeful.”

Celebrate Cannabis legalization in Canada by watching Secret Ingredient, which will have its Canadian Premier Friday, October 19 @ 7pm at the Carlton Cinema, followed by an after-film party.  

Other films featured at the MFF this year are Milcho Manchevski’s award winning Bikini Moon.
Back by popular demand, Jason Miko’s A Name is A Name, and the controversial film The Mocking of Christ. So many wonderful must-see films!
