Master watchmaker launches Canadian-made timepieces

TORONTO, Nov. 03, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Attention watch aficionados in and around the GTA: Fortunes Fine Jewellers is introducing a new Canadian-made line of fine watches. It’s about time.

Göttert Designs, the brainchild of German master watchmaker and artisan Peter Göttert, will launch at the bespoke jewellery shop on November 8, 2018. Handcrafted and assembled in Göttert’s Niagara region farmhouse-turned-factory, Göttert’s fine watch line will offer highly stylized, customizable timepieces for the modern man and woman.

“I strive to create art that is individual and meaningful,” Göttert says. “I believe that a watch does more than keep time—it keeps pace with the wearer, representing who they are now, and who they aspire to be.”

The refined quality and unique appeal of Göttert’s timepieces is paramount to the changing market, as the new generation of consumers doesn’t use watches as a utility as much as an accessory. “People come into our shop looking for something unique, innovative and well-made,” says Fortune’s Zachary daCosta. “Peter’s line offers a stunning variety of styles coupled with excellent craftsmanship, engineering and attention to detail. Our customers will love them.”

Fortunes will unveil the watches with an invitation-only soirée this Thursday evening, November 8, from 7pm to 9pm. The VIP event will be held at Fortunes Fine Jewellers, 1901 Avenue Road in Toronto. The store will take orders from the public on the following day, Friday, November 9.

About the Watchmaker
Peter Göttert learned his craft in Germany, where he apprenticed at a professional guild under the tutelage of its master craftsman. From there, he was accepted into a prestigious watchmaking program in Bavaria, earning the highest degree bestowed in his industry. He broadened his acumen at Swatch Group Ltd. in Switzerland, and then returned to Germany to establish his own company—Costro—working to create unique bespoke watches for individuals and corporations (including DuPont Worldwide, Volkswagen and Mercedes).

In 2013, he moved to Toronto to design highly stylized custom timepieces for discerning private clients under his own brand Göttert Designs. In the summer of 2018, Göttert relocated to Niagara-on-the-Lake, where he currently fabricates one-of-a-kind watches.
