CrossIron Mills transforms into an Enchanted Winterland with Northern Lights-inspired displays and an interactive guest experience

Donations will be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Alberta when shoppers download app

CALGARY, Alberta, Nov. 21, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CrossIron Mills (CrossIron), is welcoming guests to take part in its inaugural Enchanted Winterland this holiday season. Shoppers will experience a thrilling augmented reality (AR) quest to discover and collect animal constellations throughout the mall by downloading the Enchanted Winterland Quest app. With every download, CrossIron will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Alberta until Dec. 31, 2018.

Heading into their 10th year of business, the mall is debuting its new décor to Alberta shoppers. Enchanted Winterland is an immersive magical wintery land, featuring nature’s greatest light show, the Aurora Borealis, and Canada’s iconic Nordic wildlife. It is inspired by nature and the landscapes of Alberta to amaze and dazzle guests.

“We want to bring a unique experience to shoppers to enjoy while giving back to our local community,” says James Moller, General Manager of CrossIron Mills. “We are delighted to see the mall transform into an Albertan wintery landscape where guests can immerse themselves in the beauty of Canadian winters while also checking off their wish lists.”

Guests can participate in the experience by downloading the free Enchanted Winterland Quest app for Apple or Android. Guests will then find the interactive tree stations throughout the centre that have a special QR code that can be scanned through the app. Upon scanning, shoppers can raise their phone to the sky and begin their hunt for the hidden constellations using AR. AR takes the real world and projects virtual, computer-generated augmentations to it to enhance our experiences.

Once a constellation has been found, the sky twinkles and the animal will appear on their screen. All animals found will be automatically saved into their collection menu. They can then return to the main experience to bring the constellations collected to life by scanning them under the archway or at the three trees.

Guests who complete the Quest will also be entered into a draw to win a trip for two to view the Northern Lights. The once in a lifetime experience in Whitehorse, Yukon includes: round-trip airfare, three-night guided Northern Light viewing in a cozy tent or cabin, city tour, and much more!

“We are thrilled to provide our guests with a fun, engaging way to bring families together while giving them the opportunity to give back to families in their community,” continues Moller. “The act of giving is what the season is about, and we are passionate about ensuring all families have a wonderful holiday season this year.”

CrossIron will also be promoting exclusive Black Thursday, Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals throughout the weekend.
