Soracom Announces Integration With AWS IoT Greengrass

Soracom Air eSIM Serves as Secure Element for Key Storage, Enhancing IoT Security for Edge Devices

SEATTLE, Nov. 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Soracom Inc., a market-leading global platform for Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity-as-a-service, is pleased to announce an integration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) IoT Greengrass Hardware Security Integration (HSI) for devices using the Soracom Air eUICC-capable eSIM for wireless connectivity.

AWS IoT Greengrass is software that lets users run local compute, messaging, data caching, sync, and ML inference capabilities for connected devices in a secure way. With AWS IoT Greengrass, connected devices can run AWS Lambda functions, keep device data in sync, and communicate with other devices securely – even when not connected to the Internet. Using AWS Lambda, Greengrass ensures that IoT devices can respond quickly to local events, use AWS Lambda functions running on Greengrass Core to interact with local resources, operate with intermittent connections, stay updated with over the air updates, and minimize the cost of transmitting IoT data to the cloud.

Hardware-based approaches to security improve protection of data and privacy and ensure that credentials are not stored on devices without encryption. AWS IoT Greengrass can increase flexibility and reduce costs related to secure provisioning of IoT devices. With AWS IoT Greengrass, devices provisioned with the eUICC-compatible Soracom Air SIM can ship with a common firmware image and receive unique credentials at the time of deployment through the Soracom console and API.

"As an AWS Partner Network (APN) Partner who achieved AWS IoT Competency status in 2016, Soracom is deeply committed to ensuring the highest level of security for IoT data in the cloud, at the edge, and at every point in between," said Kenta Yasukawa, Soracom CTO and Co-Founder. "Hardware security integration makes AWS IoT Greengrass the ideal solution for any developer seeking secure cloud integration at the edge. And customers can now use the Soracom eSIM to get the benefit of this new feature without adding any new hardware elements."
