Located in in Fort St. James, British Columbia, the Northern Lights Organics facility spans over 600 acres of organic farmland and is on track to become Canada’s first mixed high-CBD focused hemp & cannabis farm, growing in certified organic soils with final products certified organic. Organic products typically demand a 24% premium over non-organics, and a full 300 acres of the company’s Northern Lights Organics farm will be dedicated to outdoor organic hemp for CBD extraction.
President and CEO of Weekend Unlimited, Cody Corrubia explained, “The new greenhouses will be used to expand the production capacity of the organic farm, and for year-round growing of hemp for high-CBD seeds and seedlings.”
The new hemp greenhouses will feature premium cannabis style lighting and rolling benches, dehumidification, venting, pest screening and control, irrigation, and automation. Construction is anticipated to take two months and be completed in January.
Founder and President of Northern Lights Organics, Art Halleran said, “Year-round growing will be possible using the greenhouse, even during the winter season. Starting outdoor crops using indoor-grown starter plants is anticipated to have a significant positive effect on ultimate yields. It is anticipated to further allow us to create our own genetics over the long term.” The high CBD hemp expected to be produced in 2019 will utilize a third-party breeder’s and/or research licence.
Northern Lights has submitted an application under the Cannabis Act for an indoor hybrid cannabis facility on the farm and indoor cannabis cultivation will be housed in 68,000 sq. ft. of purpose-built grow rooms with the same features as the hemp operations. The Northern Lights Organics Campus will eventually include veg, clone, and genetics rooms and an extraction facility for CBD hemp oils and concentrates.
Rounding Out A Year of Impressive Growth
Weekend Unlimited just announced an arms-length agreement enabling it to acquire 49% of Northern Lights Supply (no relation), a 6,500 square foot retail cannabis store located near the Edmonton International Airport, which is currently gearing up for its grand opening in early December.
Weekend Unlimited aggregates and scales small to medium brands, primarily in the categories of flower, extracts, and edibles, and its move into the Canadian retail market will allow it to showcase its already diverse and expanding product brands.
The company recently announced LOI’s with intent to acquire Verve energy drink and California-based Canna Candys & Canna Medibles, giving it an entry into the rapidly-growing CBD and THC-infused edible and beverage markets, and R&D Pharma, a Tier 3 licensed cannabis cultivator located in Jamaica.
