Human Rights Office Educates Parents on How to Protect Their Children From Predators

CLEARWATER, Fla., Nov. 29, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On the 1st of December the United for Human Rights (UHR) Florida chapter located in downtown Cleawater and sponsored by the Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization will host the final seminar in their 2018 series on Human Trafficking, “Citizens against Predators”.  The seminar will educate parents on how to protect their children, what are the signs that a predator is stalking their child and how to create agreements with their child so they know what to do and what not to do to keep predators at bay. The seminar will be held at 1:30pm in the 101 N Fort Harrison Avenue, Clearwater UHR Center.  All concerned residents and parents of Tampa Bay are welcome.

Cristian Vargas, the Executive Director of the UHR Florida chapter, said, “Every parent, teacher, youth mentor and minister must empower their children with education to increase the youths’ awareness which will protect them from falling into the hands of a predator.

Before the advent of smart phones and social media, a child could play and enjoy being a child in the outdoors, with sports or dolls. These days, children are often seen glued to their cellphones, connected up to the “Wild, Wild Web”, ignorant and vulnerable that any stranger can use the anonymity of the Web to approach them with ease. In fact, research shows that one of the easiest ways for a trafficker to befriend and separate a youth from their home to a life of sex trafficking is using the internet.

As an example, a guardian ad litem told this story at one of the seminars, “I was taking care of a foster child whose friend had gotten into sexual things.  The friend was picked up by a man from Miami but left her phone and her ipad behind so she could not be followed, no doubt as advised by the trafficker.”

United for Human Rights is a non-profit initiative with the objective to create awareness of the 30 human rights as proclaimed in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The United Nations estimates that there are 45.8 million people in some form of modern day slavery.
