Webscale Customers Serve More Than 20 Million Shoppers During Cyber Weekend 2018, Maintaining 100% Uptime

Platform Delivers 1,000+ Fast, Secure E-Commerce Stores During Holiday Weekend; Company Revenues Grow More than 100% Year over Year

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Dec. 05, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Webscale, the E-Commerce Cloud Company, successfully completed yet another record-breaking holiday shopping weekend, delivering more than 1,000 fast, secure and available online storefronts and contributing to a 160% year-over-year  increase in gross merchandise revenue (GMV). Online merchants on the Webscale platform maintained 100% uptime during unpredictable holiday traffic surges, while also delivering 360-degree protection from cyber-threats.

Highlights:

  • Online storefronts delivered via the Webscale platform maintained lightning-fast page loads for more than 20 million shoppers, as well as 100% availability from browsing to checkout.
  • More than 1.5 billion page requests were served through the Webscale platform alone, contributing to a GMV in excess of $500 million during Cyber week.
  • Webscale’s security platform successfully mitigated over 17 million threats, including bots, scrapers, account takeovers, credit card fraud attacks and brute force login attempts.
  • Webscale delivered more than 9,000 scale-out (and scale-in) events across its managed storefronts, while managing peak demand that was significantly higher than last year and sustained for longer.

The strong performance of the Webscale platform in the fourth quarter, a period where many e-commerce businesses make more than 50% of their yearly revenue, is a clear indicator of the strong momentum the company has seen in 2018. With more than 100% year-over-year revenue growth, Webscale is now delivering more than 1,000 managed online storefronts across hundreds of e-commerce businesses, adding several marquee international e-commerce brands to its customer base this year including Puma, Sphero, Dolls Kill, Performance Health (makers of TheraBand), and Ecklers Automotive.

The 2018 cyber weekend set new records as U.S. online shoppers spent $6.22 billion on Black Friday (23.6% increase compared to the previous year), and $7.86 billion (representing a 19.3% YoY increase) on Cyber Monday, according to Adobe Analytics.

Several e-retailers’ websites, however, experienced service disruptions and slowdowns partly due to the holiday shopping rush, and partly because of their unpreparedness to handle these traffic spikes. The more well-known ones included Walmart, J. Crew, Lululemon, Lowe’s, and Barneys New York. DDoS attacks on e-commerce providers also increased: by over 70% on Black Friday and 109% on Cyber Monday, compared with the November average. Webscale customers though, were immune to these challenges.

“The Webscale Black Friday tradition continues to get bigger and better every year! This year, we more than doubled our server allocations as our customers exceeded their sales and site traffic estimations, by running aggressive promotions and marketing campaigns,” said Sonal Puri, CEO of Webscale. “Our E-Commerce Cloud platform delivered 100% uptime, cutting-edge performance optimization, and robust 360-degree security for hundreds of online storefronts as they processed thousands of transactions every second.“
