MOAA Named a Top Lobbyist for 12th Year by The Hill

Alexandria, Va., Dec. 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) was named one of the top lobbyists of 2018 by The Hill, a newspaper based in Washington, D.C., covering a variety of federal policy, defense, finance, and technology topics. This is the 12th year in a row MOAA earned this honor.

“We are honored to again receive this recognition, and to be among the other accomplished organizations and individuals on this list,” said MOAA’s president and CEO, retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Dana T. Atkins, “but our work is far from finished. We will remain engaged on Capitol Hill to ensure our nation's servicemembers and veterans, and their families’ efforts, are acknowledged and their earned benefits are protected.”

MOAA is the only military or veteran service organization named on the newspaper’s list of 89 associations. MOAA boasts the following legislative victories for 2018:

  • A fully funded National Defense Authorization Act, ensuring pay raises for service members, an increase in end strength, and no reduction in housing allowances.
  • Continued health care for service members and retirees without fee increases.
  • The passage of the VA MISSION Act, which includes many long-sought improvements for VA care and for the department's staff, many of which were years in the making.

“Our strength on the Hill — and in the offices of lawmakers — comes from the commitment and engagement of our membership,” said retired Air Force Col. Dan Merry, MOAA's vice president of government relations. “We are honored to receive this award — it's another sign that our work on our members' behalf isn't going unnoticed.”
