EDMONTON, Alberta, Feb. 28, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Katz Group Real Estate (KGRE) and Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) are pleased to announce Edmonton Tower has received BOMA BEST© (Building Owners and Managers Association of Canada) Platinum certification, recognizing the Tower’s excellence in operation, management, and sustainable performance.
“We are thrilled to accept the BOMA BEST© Platinum certification for Edmonton Tower,” said Hilary Lumme, Senior Vice President, Property Management and Operations at KGRE. “This certification recognizes best practices in high-rise office buildings across the country. Achieving the highest scoring range is a testament to the standard of operation, management and sustainability that KGRE upholds.”
To qualify for BOMA BEST© certification, buildings are evaluated on 10 environmental performance and management criteria: energy, water, air, comfort, health and wellness, custodial, purchasing, waste, site, and stakeholder engagement. Following an online assessment of these key areas, on-site verification is conducted by a third party.
Of the five BOMA BEST© levels of certification, Platinum is the highest and is awarded to buildings that achieve between 90 to 100 per cent of the BOMA questionnaire. Edmonton Tower scored 92 per cent in the BOMA BEST© assessment.
“A 92 for a building that is just over a year old is quite impressive. Keeping up with operational duties at a Platinum level is a huge credit to the KGRE team,” said Percy Woods, President and CEO, BOMA Edmonton.
The City of Edmonton is the largest tenant currently operating in Edmonton Tower. Other tenants include: Felesky Flynn LLP, Kids & Company, RBC Dominion Securities, Sorrell Financial, Boston Pizza, Tim Hortons, Gateway Newstands and Cacao 70.
“We are proud to work in a building that has achieved one of the highest certifications in excellent management and sustainability,” said Mike Mellross, General Supervisor of the Energy Transition Unit at the City of Edmonton. “We’d like to congratulate Katz Group Real Estate in ensuring that their Edmonton Tower tenants, including ourselves, work in a healthy work environment while also reducing our city’s ecological footprint.”
Currently, there are only six other BOMA BEST© Platinum certified buildings in Edmonton including Oxbridge Place, Bell Tower, The Steppes Business Campus East and West, Commerce Place, and L. Col Phillip L. Debney Armoury.
Edmonton Tower, which was acquired by AIMCo in the second half of 2018, is a 27-storey AAA Class office tower that was constructed in 2016 and was designed with sustainability in mind. The building features high efficiency mechanical equipment, rainfall water harvesting, high efficiency plumbing fixtures and high thermal insulation.
Edmonton Tower also received LEED® Gold Core and Shell certification, which recognizes the building’s commitment to high standards of energy and water savings, as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
